Read our constitution and you’ll get a good idea of how our guild is organized, what we do and how we do it. You’ll stay updated with our monthly newsletter. Here is a brief overview of our activities.
Guest Speakers: We seek out guest speakers for our meetings in the fall and spring. Our programs may include;
- Trunk shows and slide shows of collections
- Lectures, personal stories and anecdotes
- Demonstrations of techniques such as dying and photo transfer
- The sale of related patterns, supplies, fabrics and finished pieces
Workshops:
- Held during a regular monthly meeting, usually in the winter months.
- In-meeting workshops are demonstrations, hands-on activities or make and take projects that take about an hour.
- There is no additional fee
External Workshops:
- Held outside of regular meetings
- Fees are charged for participation, on average $35-45 for a 6 hour workshop.
- Held at local halls and small venues
- We seek out teachers for unique intermediate and advanced techniques and projects.
- Registration takes place up to 2 months in advance.
Community Outreach - Cop Shop Divas:
- Our charity quilt program was named for the location of these quilting bees.
- An organized gathering takes place in the community room of the Durham Regional Police Station on Hwy 12.
- Divas do day-time sorting, kitting and sewing days.
- Dates and times depend on the leaders and availability so check the newsletter for current information.
- Lap quilts and quilt projects such as placemats and Christmas stockings are made for charities in Durham region. We’ve made a commemorative quilt for the Port Perry Fair 150th Anniversary, shown every year at the fair.
- The Divas also assemble kits for quilters to complete at home.
Show & Share :
A major component of our guild is to share our talents and achievements, to encourage others and pick up ideas and inspiration.
- Bring complete or almost complete projects.
- Come with information on whom or what inspired you, the pattern, class or teacher and the techniques used.
- We have clips and hangers available to hang things up.
Feature Quilter:
- A chance for us to see a collection of quilts from one of our quilters all at once.
- We get to know a new member or new members get to know long standing members.
- We love the stories that go with these mini trunk shows.
Charm Squares:
- Each month has a theme for fabric selection.
- Cut 6, 5” squares, bring in a baggie labeled with your name.
- Our Charm Square Convenor mixes them up and you get an assortment back.
- From time to time we’ll publish project ideas for 5” squares.
Challenges and Special Programs:
- Organized and held throughout the year
- Participation is optional
- A chance to try new ideas and stretch your imagination. You get some guidelines and a deadline.
- We vote on the entries and there are great prizes.
- These projects are featured at our quilt shows
Quilt Show:
- Held every three years on a Friday and Saturday in May.
- A special committee is struck and organizes the show.
- All members participate in running the show.
- All members are encouraged to enter quilts for display.
- The quilt show is a major source of revenue for our guild and allows us to run our programs and rent meeting space.
- The shows allow us the opportunity to share our talents with other quilters and the broader community.

Our Library contains more than 200 books, plastic templates, technique rulers and quilting design stencils.
- Library material must be signed out by members.
