A few words from our Community Outreach Officer Ruth Powell:
My Story
Many years ago when I first came to this area, I attended a quilt show with a friend who does hand quilting. The show was very nice and I bought a quilt top from one of the vendors. She referred me to a group who does hand quilting and of course when I took the top to them, they suggested I join and learn to hand quilt!! I did join the group, but still haven’t learnt the knack of hand quilting.
I joined a guild and helped with their next show to learn about this ‘quilting thing’. I did learn a bit, but it was not until after I had taken several basic classes and attended PMS days at Quilter’s Cupboard that I really learned the proper techniques. The staff were so patient with me and have helped me through many hurdles. I enjoy the friendliness and support of the small classes.
I like to make blocks and assemble the blocks together into a top. My machine quilting is limited and I am one reason why there are long arm quilters. If I need an over-all design or a nice pattern on a quilt, I am very happy to support two friends who have a long arm quilting business.
