Community Outreach
The Port Perry Patchers are committed to helping their community through various quilting pursuits. Place mats for Meals on Wheels, Christmas stockings for Grandview Children’s Centre and cash donations to Operation Scugog are just a few of our recent projects. Many quilts have been created over the years and presented to deserving charities such as the Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Bethesda House, the Alzheimer’s Society, the Durham Children’s’ Aid and Durham Youth Housing.
All guild members are involved at various stages of our charity quilt programme. Through the generous donation of fabric from a variety of sources, an extensive fabric library exists. Kits are prepared and distributed at guild meetings. Once the quilt tops are done, a second member might do the quilting. A third lady may finish the quilt with its binding. A small group of Port Perry Patchers, known as the Cop Shop Divas, meet regularly to sort through the fabrics and prepare the kits for distribution to the members as well as to sew some more quilt tops.
Our projects involve all the Port Perry Patchers who work diligently to bring a little comfort and warmth to those less fortunate.
